Newark Castle is renovating until Autumn 2026, promising exciting future upgrades. While awaiting its full reopening, explore Newark's other historic sites and enjoy diverse town centre dining, including Ga Sushi.

The iconic Newark Castle, a symbol of our town's rich history, is currently undergoing a truly exciting transformation! While we know many visitors love exploring its ancient walls, it's important to be aware that the castle and grounds are undergoing a major renovation project until Autumn 2026. What to expect during this period? From July 7, 2025, the castle and grounds will be fully closed for approximately one week, with a limited section of the gardens expected to reopen from July 14, 2025. The main site will then remain closed for further work. But don't despair! This extensive renovation is for the castle's long-term preservation and to create an even more spectacular experience for future visitors. Imagine: rebuilt rooms, new accessible galleries with lift access, interactive displays that bring history to life, a breathtaking tower-top viewing platform, and beautifully enhanced gardens. It's an investment in Newark's heritage that promises incredible returns! While the castle's full glory awaits, there's still a wealth of history and culture to explore right here in Newark and the wider Nottinghamshire area. Dive into the past at the National Civil War Centre, explore the historic Market Place, or visit the magnificent St. Mary Magdalene Church. And when you're ready for a break, Newark's town centre is bustling with independent shops and fantastic dining options, including Ga Sushi.
